Anne Staal was educated as an engineer (BEng) and a translator (MA). In 1992 he started his career in Intellectual Property Rights, ending in 2001 as a business development manager in patents & licensing at the Dutch telco KPN.

In 1999 he obtained a Diploma in Management Studies (DMS). In 2000 he finalized his Master in Business Administration (MBA) and then switched to purchasing. He i.a. managed a post-merger purchasing department with 30 FTEs and a spend volume of 400 mNZD at the Dutch utility company RWE-Essent. As a B2B account manager he successfully tendered European glass-fibre tenders for the telecom company Ziggo. He then was a supply chain manager (board position) at a small Philip production site and contributed to its successful turn-around.

In 2008 Anne entered academia and now works for the School of Facilities Management at the Dutch Hanze University of Applied Sciences. He mainly lectures purchasing & supply management. He also lectures in marketing, entrepreneurship, supply chain management, and quality and change management.

In November 2013 he started his PhD study with Professor John Tookey at the Auckland University of Technology focussing on the role of purchasing in innovation diffusion of waste-reducing technologies in construction building supply chains.

Anne has a European business and research network. He is a member of the Dutch Association of Purchasing Managers NEVI, and of the International Purchasing & Supply Education & Research Association IPSERA.
